Eastern Airways yesterday began a new service from Belfast City to the Isle of Man…

The UK regional airline has introduced a new daily return service to the Isle of Man with onward connection to Newcastle.

The new service comes just 48 hours after the announcement by Citywing that it was discontinuing its Isle of Man route.

Katy Best, Commercial and Marketing Director at Belfast City Airport said: “We’re delighted to secure an airline of the pedigree of Eastern Airways on a route that is vitally important to both the Northern Ireland and Isle of Man communities.

“To have filled the void left by Citywing in less than 48 hours is testament to potential that Eastern Airways recognises in the route. We look forward to forging a close partnership with Eastern Airways and providing passengers with further choice.

Eastern Airways has been operating for 19 years and will operate a Jetstream 41 aircraft on the route which can carry 29 passengers.

Air Kilroe Limited, trading as Eastern Airways, is a British airline whose head office is at Humberside Airport in Kirmington, North Lincolnshire. It operates scheduled domestic and international services and private charter services.

Late last Friday night Citywing, which operated services to the Isle of Man, announced all flights from March 11 onwards had been cancelled.

In a statement the company said they had found it “difficult to source suitable viable aircraft to fulfil our contract”.

It added: “Directors of Citywing Aviation Services Limited have had to take the difficult decision to close the company today and put the company into liquidation.”

Passengers can book via the Eastern Airways website or via their travel agent.
